Oh hi there

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’d apologise for my lack of official blog posts (I’m quite frequently active on Twitter), but then we’d both just feel awkward because you know I’ve been working so hard on the dev side of things that I just haven’t had time. At least, that’s what you’d politely assume, and if you did so, you’d be totally right. After chatting with a number of third-parties (publishers, distributors, and the like), I came to the realisation that the visuals in Among the Innocent were stuck a little too far in the past. Sure, the...

Weekend away

Last weekend was Global Game Jam 2016, and, since I’m officially in the business of making games, I thought it’d be a good opportunity to hone my skills, do some networking, and spend 48 hours stressing about a tiny game. What a weekend it was! I broke the GGJ rules by teaming up before the event, which is against the spirit of things but I’m not one for sticking to recommendations anyway. I worked with Duncan Bell, who’s contributed some of the art in Among the Innocent, and we got on very well. Our skills are quite similar, which...

Alpha demo launched, new website, and trailer!

It’s been a busy few weeks for us in putting the final touches on the alpha demo, which has now been released! There are still a couple of bugs floating around, but they’re related to the save/load system so they’re not critical. At present, the demo is for 64-bit Windows PCs only. We’ll have a Mac and (very experimental) Linux build up soon, and as a part of that update those last few bugs will be ironed out. Or swatted, I suppose is more fitting. Ironing a bug seems like it’ll only make things worse. We also set up...

Demo status and pre-orders

Got a few quick updates for you today. And a website theme change. I decided to dial back the visual elements somewhat, which, I have to admit, was holding me back from posting. That’s no good: posting on this blog is supposed to be a fun and light-hearted way for me to share the development experience with everyone. It’s not meant to be hard work (save that for the game!). First, the state of the public demo. This will be released within the next couple of weeks and will feature the same cabin escape sequence as the rAge demo (this is...

The rAge aftermath, and moving forward

rAge weekend! As a Joburg-based gamer and long-time member of the games industry in South Africa, to me rAge Expo represents more than just 33,000+ tech and gaming lovers getting together under one roof, it represents progress and growth in this industry – something which I’ve had the privilege to see from all sides. For that reason, when I started building Among the Innocent: A Stricken Tale, I knew that my first milestone should be showing the game at rAge. That happened this last weekend, and the experience was incredible. It was the first time I’d shown a game that...
